2023 Mazda CX-30 CKD: Variants explained

It was only earlier this month that the official distributor of Mazda cars in Malaysia, Bermaz Motor launched the locally-assembled CX-30 in the country. For the past two years, a fully imported CX-30 was being offered in an all-wheel drive configuration. Now, however, the SUV is offered in a two-wheel drivetrain and four variant options.

2023 Mazda CX-30 CKD variants: Powertrain

All the four Mazda CX-30 CKD variants are powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder petrol mill making a maximum power of 162 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 213 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

The mill is paired with a SKYACTIV DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

2023 Mazda CX-30 CKD variants: Chassis

The Mazda CX-30 is underpinned by the brand’s SKYACTIV-Vehicle Architecture which is aimed to enable the driver and passenger to fully maintain their balance even inside the car.
The said platform showcases human characteristics like overriding design directives for the body, seats, and chassis as a whole, the architecture realizes ride comfort, stability, handling, and vehicle motion.

The SUV SKYACTIV-BODY is light, rigid, and robust, thus ensuring a safe and joyful drive. The SKYACTIV-CHASSIS is lightweight and delivers the required comfort and pleasure.

2023 Mazda CX-30 CKD variants: Braking & Handling

Again common across the lineup is the car’s braking and suspension setup which is as follows

Braking: At the front doing the duty is MacPherson Struts and taking care of things at the back is the Torsion Beam.

Suspension: Assuring a smooth ride irrespective of the terrain are the Ventilated Disc and Solid Disc at the front and rear respectively.

Also, common across the range is an Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) and electronic parking brake.

2023 Mazda CX-30 CKD variants: Exterior

The CKD unit looks the same as the previously available CBU one. The SUV still features the brand’s signature Mazda ‘Wing’ along with the triangular motif on the radiator grille. We still see the black claddings all around which continue to give the car a sleek yet rugged look.

Obviously, the CX-30’s standard feature list only misses out on a few features, the brand’s signature illumination lighting, power tailgate, and power sunroof, with everything else available to the buyers. Thus, making the base variant even a good catch.

All four CX-30 variants benefit from two of the brand’s most amazing technologies - Mazda i-Stop Idling Technology and Mazda G-Vectoring Control Plus Technology (GVC Plus). The latter offers unprecedented levels of confidence-inspiring controllability.

Let us first have a look at the CX-30 CKD standard safety kit which is quite impressive and as mentioned is shared by all four variants. The kit includes -

This gives the range-topping CX-30 variant a major advantage over the base trim.

Conclusion

The new CKD CX-30 is offered in four variant options. Powered by the same powertrain, dimensions, and chassis, the only major difference is seen in the advanced safety feature kit. With only a few added features seen on the exterior and interior features.
